December 25, 2007 Happy holidays and merry Christmas to all our members and friends! Don't forget your camera for all those holiday events! December 12, 2007 The WPGphoto garage sale was a huge success! Thanks to all who where in attendance to sell and buy. Due to the success of this event we are looking at holding another one closer to the spring. Stay tuned! November 22, 2007 A new event has just been added to our December roster: WPGphoto appreciation night @ Don's Photo Portage Due to our great relationship with Don's Photo we've been invited to an appreciation night with them on December 7th from 6-8pm, Portage location. This is a chance to test out any lenses you've been thinking about buying (or just drooling over) and have some new products demoed (like the new VisibleDust sensor loupe!). The Nikon rep has already been confirmed and other reps may also attend. It's also another chance just to chat with other members and have a relaxed fun time surrounded by photography equipment. As always newcomers are very welcome to attend. So come one, come all to the Don's Photo - WPGphoto appreciation night! November 13, 2007 Thanks to all who attended especially all our new members. Shirts will be black with the logo on front and the slogan on the back. Shirts cost $20 and are available in multiple sizes. Click image for much larger version November 6, 2007 Don't forget that this Friday we have been invited to the Grand Opening of the new Don's Location in St. Vital. Check the Events page for more details. November 5, 2007 We are now accepting submissions for our annual club calendar! Each year WPGphoto brings out it's club calendar in order to showcase it's member's work and to promote the club. Details for the 2008 calendar: -Photos must be horizontal format at 8.5"x11" @ 300DPI to be considered for the calendar. Web sized images will not be accepted. -You may enter up to three photos maximum per photographer -All photos must have been taken in Manitoba -You must include your full name (first & last) and the location the photograph was taken (example, Steep Rock, Manitoba or St Boniface Cathedral, Winnipeg) -This isn't really a contest however several volunteers will be used to judge the general aesthetics and image quality of each photo and then prioritized for entry into the calendar so it technically runs the same as a contest. -No copyrights are allowed directly on the photos (they will be added after as part of the design) -Submit full resolution photos only to submissions@wpgphoto.com -In your e-mail you must include the following: "I _____ hereby allow WPGphoto to use any of the following photos in their 2008 club calendar. I understand that the calendar may be sold, that I keep all rights to my own photos, that they may be modified to fit the needs of the calendar and that the only compensation that I will receive is a photo credit." -Final date for entries is December 2, 2007 Legal: By submitting photos for the 2008 WPGphoto club calendar the photographer: -Must acknowledge that he/she alone took the photos and has full rights to submit them -By submitting, still retains all rights to their photos but simply allows WPGphoto to use and publish any of the submitted images in the calendar (which can be sold) and on the Web (pertaining only to the calendar) with the only compensation being a photo credit. Just FYI the calendar is housed in the Goodies section of the web site. August 18, 2007 Despite weak conditions for starscapes we still ended up with 13 hardcore members for the Grand Beach event. Thanks to everyone who attended! Here is a group photo from the event:  (Click to enlarge) August 18, 2007 The club sunset and starscape shoot for tonight is ON! Although it is partially cloudy in the Grand Beach area the satellite shows that it may clear later on. Even if it is still cloudy tonight we will do some painting with light. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at the St Boniface Cathedral on Rue de la Cathedrale. Look for all the people with cameras. Hope to see everyone there! June 4, 2007 Thanks to everyone for applying for the MB Marathon position. All the positions are now filled. May 29, 2007 Job Opportunity: As the regional manager for TPS Photography it's my job to organize shooters for upcoming events. The next event we are shooting is the Manitoba Marathon, June 17th, 2007. For the Manitoba Marathon I need another 5 shooters for various positions around the course. You will be assigned a position and will need to shoot for 4-6 hours and will be paid $30/hr. The only qualification is you need a DSLR. All other information will be provided in an information session prior to the race. Please contact me directly at dan@wpgphoto.com to apply for a position. (Just FYI we also have events coming up on July 14th and July 28th so mark those in your calendar as well) May 29, 2007 The Turtle Mountain Snappers are holding a photography show, Sunday, September 16th, 2007 in Boissevain, MB. February 16, 2007 Thanks to everyone for the donation offers, thanks to your kindness the forums have been upgraded and we now have 5 skins to choose from to customize your viewing experience on the forums. February 12, 2007 WPGphoto will soon be upgrading it's forums however, until then it will not be accepting new registrations. The advantage to the upgrade is new skins and a gallery within the forum itself. Please be patient and we will have it up as soon as I can afford the new forum software. Sorry for the inconvenience. February 6, 2007 Thanks to everyone who made it out to tonight's meeting despite the bitter cold. It was a good group of 20 people, most of whom where new members and we all had a good time just chatting about what we like most, photography. Some good discussions on HDR as well as software and upcoming events.  (Click for a larger version) January 29, 2007 Just announced: WPGphoto Photoshop meeting, February 19th from 7-9:30pm. This month's topic is "All about RAW." For more information please see the Events page. January 28, 2007 We currently have 18 people signed up to the WPGphoto Manitoba Museum shoot for February. We have 7 tickets left and possibly 5-10 more if I send in the request early enough so if you want to be a part of another great free WPGphoto event please e-mail me to reserve a ticket at submissions@wpgphoto.com January 22, 2007 Don't forget that the WPGphoto Photoshop meeting is this Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from 7-9pm, Location: Oakenwald School @ 666 Oakenwald Ave. I will be starting off the night showing my own general workflow including some specific editing techniques with curves and sharpening as well as giving a bit of an into to using RAW. I will then be opening up the floor to anyone who has any fun or creative tips, so you're welcome to bring photos you've worked on as examples as either physical prints or digital files. For more information see the Events page. Everyone including new members are always welcome to come to any WPGphoto event. Remember, there is no cost and no official sign up for the club, all you have to do to be a member is to have an interest in photography and participate as much as you can. Don't forget to bring any Photoshop related books with you. Hope to see you all there! January 11, 2007 The WPGphoto January 2007 Assignment #13: "Dusty" has just been posted on the forum. Since there has been a lot of talk about sensor dust, I have acquired the following image from Ross Cornish of Ross Cornish Photography that has hundreds (yes hundreds) of dust spots. The assignment is to remove all the dust spots from the photo. (Although they are not very visible in this small thumbnail size you will be able to see hundreds of spots with the HR version)  Please see the Assignment and Contest forum for more details and the link to the high res image. And thanks to Chris @ Don's Photo on Portage and to Dave B (WPGphoto moderator) for all the prizes.  January 8, 2007 TONIGHT! Don't forget that tonight is our monthly club meeting at the Pony Corral Downtown (444 St Mary) at 7pm (you can also join us for dinner at 6pm). Be sure to bring any cool Christmas you received including books and gear. I will be doing a sensor cleaning demo with both air and swabs for anyone interested. *Chris B from Don's on Portage has given me a bunch of schwag to give out tonight including really big Pentax calendars, smaller Canon and Nikon calendars/planners and some other random stuff like pins and cubes. I hope to see everyone out for the first meeting of the new year! January 8, 2007 The WPGphoto 2007 club calendar is now ready for download. Thanks to everyone who submitted, I'll be sure to give everyone more time next year. This year we had 21 people submit 94 photos. (Last year we had 11 people submit 48 photos.) So I'm very happy for the participation which basically doubled from last year.
